How did you find out about STS?

I found out about STS through the data analytics career services at George Washington University.

Why did you apply to the STS Apprentice Program?

I applied to the program because I was looking for hands-on experience in IT and I needed more exposure in the computer science field. I was impressed with STS’s mission to focus on professional development and their commitment to allocate resources toward mentorship and education.

What skills have you learned during the STS Apprenticeship?

In addition to becoming a certified cloud architect, I have learned how to leverage my skillset by evaluating and recommending innovative solutions in complex technical environments.

How has the apprenticeship benefitted you and your career?

The exposure to advanced technical knowledge in an environment where professional development have been a welcomed introduction to the field of technology

What should future applicants expect from the program?

Since I had to start from square one, there was so much to learn and I was a bit overwhelmed at first! In time, I learned that if you put in the time and ask for help, you will find your footing. Once I started to seek out my coworkers and mentors for advice, I realized how much the team wants us to succeed. In turn, they find my participation equally as valuable, cementing my role as a valuable team member.

How has this opportunity changed your life?

Five years ago, I never imagined that I would have what it takes to work in an advanced and growing technical field. Now, I have been able to demonstrate my in-depth knowledge and apply hands-on experience to solve difficult problems in a positive and creative way.

Give one piece of advice to those just starting out in their career…

My first piece of advice is to always be professional and respectful to everyone you meet! Keep professional boundaries with your colleagues and always ask questions!
