STS Apprentice Program: Unlock Your Potential
The goal of the Simple Technology Solutions Apprenticeship program is two-fold, create a challenging and rewarding career for you while creating a pool of qualified personnel to staff our federal contract positions. Our program brings together education, mentoring, client focused hands-on learning and the possibility of full-time employment upon successful completion of the program.
This week, we would like to introduce you to Emily Orsborne, former apprentice turned Data Analyst.
George Washington University, Certificate in Web Development, 2018
The Ohio State University, Major: Criminology, Minor: Sociology, 2014
What is your current Company and Title? PT or FT?
I currently work for a government contractor, IMG-Crown, as a Data Analyst. I also work in web development operations at the Department of Energy.
How did you find out about STS?
I found out about STS through my career counselor at George Washington. I was looking for program that could give me a structured curriculum and on-the-training simultaneously.
Why did you apply to the STS Apprentice Program?
I applied to the STS Apprenticeship program to gain experience in this ever-changing and expanding field. The opportunity for job placement was also an appealing program feature.
How has the apprenticeship benefitted you and your career?
I entered the apprenticeship program with limited experience working on the engineering side of web development. I have learned so much in such a short amount of time and I am continuing to grow and develop my skills within my contract positions.
What should future applicants expect from the program?
If a future applicant has limited experience in this field, they should expect to invest their time in the research tools and concepts related to data science and engineering. This, coupled with the STS curriculum, will create a comprehensive learning experience.
How has this opportunity changed your life?
I have a completely new direction for my career and the possibilities and room for growth are endless!
Give one piece of advice to those just starting out in their career…
There is always room to grow! If you think you are stuck in a career path, you’re wrong! It’s never too late to dive into a completely new field and turn it into a rewarding and exciting career.
