STS Apprentice Program: Unlock Your Potential

The goal of the Simple Technology Solutions Apprenticeship program is two-fold, create a challenging and rewarding career for you while creating a pool of qualified personnel to staff our federal contract positions. Our program brings together education, mentoring, client focused hands-on learning and the possibility of full-time employment upon successful completion of the program.

This week, we would like to introduce you to James McCoy, a former apprentice turned Cloud Engineer with STS.

Why did you apply to the STS Apprentice Program?

After completing coding school, I started to get acquainted with the job search process in IT field. As I was navigating postings and opportunities, I was introduced to STS. The STS Apprentice Program has been the perfect way to launch my career by providing valuable and relevant skills and expanding my network.

How did you find out about STS?

Through a friend who was in the program.

Why did you apply to the STS Apprentice Program?

Since I was already in IT, I wanted to gain experience in cloud architecture. This was also an opportunity to partake in cloud/ technology discussions and facilitate decisions with other apprenticeship participants. 

What skills have you learned during the STS Apprenticeship?

During my time at STS, I have learned to develop and design secure enterprise cloud solutions. Cloud computing is a big shift from the traditional way businesses think about IT resources and there are endless solutions and configurations.

How has the apprenticeship benefitted you and your career?

From databases to software capabilities and applications, I have learned how to leverage the power of cloud resources to solve various business challenges. I can confidently demonstrate thought leadership in cloud technologies across multiple disciplines.

What should future applicants expect from the program?

Take every opportunity to ask questions, use your time wisely, approach meetings as information gathering sessions and don’t be afraid to offer a different opinion or strategy. Collaboration is key to finding the best solutions.
